Hi Barry,

Thanks for the pictures.  But, what I'm not seeing is the cleat you use to secure the outhaul.  In heavy air, the mainsail's foot needs at least a 2:1 mechanical advantage to obtain the proper sail shape with the standard rig.  With the innermast furling mechanism adding friction, I wouldn't be surprised if 3:1 or even 4:1 were required.  Without seeing the cleat, I would think the outhaul would start at the hole in the fitting on the end of the boom, run to the block on the clew, back to the small block on the boom, and then to the cleat.  Try that and let me know how it works for you.

OK, it's time to ask for guidance. My sailboat partner and I have the rebuild of our 87 Rhodes about 98% complete.  We are finding that we don't have our main rigged properly for haul out so we have to add some hand tugging along the way. I looked through the archives for pictures and descriptions but it's not working for me. That includes a colorful description from Stan. We have the old style metal car but haven't figured the proper way to put it all together. I've included a photo of the car and the aft termination. I did not show how we currently put together as I know it's wrong. The clew has an attachment point that is also a built in pulley if you wanted to use it as such. I think that's what is throwing us off.
If I could get a picture with a description, maybe I could follow along.
