[Rhodes22-list] Out haul rigging

Thank you Peter,
I'll give that a shot. It sounds like trying to incorporate that clew pully function is a problem. We have the old style metal car shown in one of my photos. In your experience are they serviceable or should we invest in the new composite one. Charles has them for $250 or so. Pretty pricey, but if they work I guess it would be worth it.
Best,
Barry

Barry,

The pulley built into the clew of the sail is something I have never seen before. It definitely throws a wrinkle into the configuration.

Usually, the outhaul line goes around the pulley (or block) on the car (which gives you the 2:1 mechanical advantage), and the car is attached to the the clew of the sail. When I got my boat, the car-to-clew attachment was done with a shackle. The shackle eventually failed, and I replaced it with a continuous loop of dyneema.

My boat is still under its winter tarp, so I can't post a picture.

Hope this helps,

We are finding that we don't have our main rigged properly for haul out so we have to add some hand tugging along the way. I looked through the archives for pictures and descriptions but it's not working for me. That includes a colorful description from Stan. We have the old style metal car but haven't figured the proper way to put it all together. I've included a photo of the car and the aft termination. I did not show how we currently put together as I know it's wrong. The clew has an attachment point that is also a built in pulley if you wanted to use it as such. I think that's what is throwing us off.
