The good news is that I was able to get the engine (a 20 year old 8hp Yamaha) running again last week. The bad news is that it also severed my tiller about 10" inboard from the rudder head. I'm going to need a replacement. Does anyone have a spare that they would be willing to sell? I only need the tiller, not the rudder or rudder head. Dedicated lubrication helps, but that's a lot of attention to small pieces. I've had better luck with the drop end pins, but again, eventually little springs fail and then the locking action becomes dependent on gravity. On anything that is crucial (like a forestay), I use something as fail-safe as possible, usually cotter pins secured by rings, or sometimes a shackle, with the shackle pin secured by wire if it is going to be in place for a long time. Since the R22 shrouds are effectively covered by the combination of the other shrouds and fore-or-back stay, I am comfortable with using one of the easier options on them. Message-ID: Good evening, fellow Rhodes 22 aficionados! Back on September 13, I sent the Rhodes 22 list an email (copied again at the bottom of this one) in response to the conversation about a Rhodes 22 meet-up at the Annapolis Boat Show, as was done after Stan passed away in honor of his decades of presence there. I said I would be there (see below) and asked for anyone who was planning to come to let me know. Both before and since, several people have indicated interest in coming on the email list, but always couched in terms like "if I can make it". So at this point, I'm not sure whether anyone else is planning to show up. If there is even one other, I will gladly be there as planned! I am eager to meet fellow Rhodies, present, past and prospective. But if not, I have no particular desire to dine alone at the Galway. So I'm asking you to let me know by 5:00 pm this Friday, October 16 if you are planning to come to the Galway Saturday evening the 17th. If someone does let me know, we're on! And will welcome any others who wander in unannounced! But if no one has let me know by 5 pm Friday, my wife and I will shift our Saturday plans. Thanks! Paul Rhodes S/V New Mercies Savannah GA 336-380-6962 (voice or text) PLRhodes29 at gmail.com Original email: Paul Rhodes Sun, Sep 13, 12:27?AM to The Good evening, fellow Rhodes 22 aficionados! My schedule was narrowing and arrangements had to be made, so I have picked a time and place to be in Annapolis during the boat show in the hopes that some of the rest of you will be there at the same time and place! So, as of now, based on others? comments, I will take a table at the Galway Bay Pub at 63 Maryland Ave, Annapolis MD 21401 at 6:30 pm on Saturday, October 17. I?ll place an R22 burgee on it and enjoy Rhodes 22 and Stan Spitzer stories with whoever comes. It will encourage me (and help me to choose the right size table) if any who are coming let me know via this email list AND also by text or voicemail to 336-380-6962. This is the only evening I can be there, but I certainly won?t be offended if folks meet on a different day as well. Also, if some want to come earlier, I could probably get there by around 5-5:30. (9:30 pm is my curfew, though the Galway is open until midnight.) As a relatively new owner, I am looking forward to meeting others who know and enjoy this fine boat! Also what would you take for the boat trailer and motor. I?d have to drive over from KS to ? Bal?more ? anyway ant the prove on your boat is really good. That would give me 3 Rhodes and two trailers. I have become aware that Most Rhodes 22?s came with Doyle super cruise sails. I am wondering if I could get some perspective from the list about general quality and durability of that sail cloth. How long does it last and how long does it keep a decent shape? My boat sits on a mooring about six months out of the year on a big lake in Minnesota. I do get out there pretty regularly during the summer. It sits shrink wrapped all winter. I am mostly interested in durability, though performance would be nice as well. I am planning to purchase the 155 Genoa. I would take your thoughts on that topic as well. Many thanks for whatever help or perspective you can give Matt Wilson Hornblower II White Bear Lake, MN
