Rummy, =20

When your boat got knocked down, did the water accumulate only in the coc=
kpit or did some get down into the cabin? =20

How long did it take to drain out of the cockpit? Would it be a good ide=
a to put a pump in the cockpit instead/in addition to in the bilge or la=
zzarette?

I recently added a pump in the cockpit bilge under the access port and on=
e in the lazarette. Each is on a separate battery and switch. One batte=
rry ischarged with a solar panel and the other with the 9.9 Yamaha. It ra=
ins a lot here and I occasionally get some wake water in my lap when a bi=
g Searay passes me in the narrow part of the channel. But the bilge is k=
eeping pretty dry. =20

Rummy,
 =20
I am in the same =E2=80=9Cboat=E2=80=9D as Brad. I need to install a bilg=
e pump. The leak around the CB cord not withstanding, I believe having on=
e would be another safety upgrade. So =E2=80=A6How is the pump installed =
and placed? How is the drain line run? Where is the value placed? Is the=
pump wired to a separate breaker? If these question are already answered=
 somewhere, just point the way.

Brad,
I've sailed for many years without a bilge pump and never saw a need for =
one until recently. It is a very inexpensive piece of safety equipment I =
will be installing in the near future.
There have been many posts to the list concerning bilge pumps and their i=
nstallations, but I believe the most common is to tie the drain hose into=
the drain for the sink, placing a one way valve in the line to prevent b=
ackflow to the bilge. Wiring is usually done directly to a switch or some=
times to a foot valve if you leave the boat unattended for long periods o=
f time.
Placement is usually in the area of the inspection cover assessable by re=
moving or pulling back the carpet.

Rummy
