[Rhodes22-list] bilge pump

Brad,

Fix the leaks, don't over-complicate the boat.

If I empty the bilge twice a season it's a lot. The bilge rarely has enough
water in it to trip bilge pump sensors.

If you develop a serious leak while you're away, the bilge pumps will drain
your batteries; the pumps will stop before you return; and you will wind up
with just as much water in your boat as you would have had with no bilge
pump at all.

If you develop a serious leak while you're aboard, these dinky little pumps
won't pump water out faster than it comes in. They will drain your
batteries, and you won't have lights, radio, and other things you might wish
you had during an emergency. You will wind up with just as much water in
your boat as you would have had with no bilge pump at all.

Subject: [Rhodes22-list] bilge pump

Here we go again. After two days of heavy
thunderstorms I once again have water in the lazaret
area and cabin bilge. The cockpit drains and hose are
very stiff and brittle (one broke) so I'm replacing
them as a first step. I definitely want a bilge pump
in the cabin bilge area and possibly one in the
lazaret as well. The latter is easy. For those of
you with one in the cabin, how is the drain line
routed to the sink drain? It appears that the
inspection area around the centerboard is sealed. Is
the drain hose routed through a hole in this
compartment? Is it possible to route a drain hose
into the lazaret area through the bulkhead from the
cabin area to connect to the cockpit drains? I'll be
at KY Lake this weekend so perhaps one "look" will be
worth a thousand e-mails. Thanks.
