Rummy,

Let me make sure I understand what you are proposing.  You are considering
installing some SS louvers down low in the front bulkhead of the lazarette
(which is also the aft bulkhead on the cockpit).  This would indeed allow XS
rainwater to drain out of the lazarette into the cockpit & would improve
lazarette ventillation.  Unfortunately, the 1st time you took a lot of water
into the cockpit, these vents would allow your lazarette to flood!  A
scupper or check valve, which only allowed 1-way flow, might be prefereable
to a passive vent.  However, check valves always leak, so you might want to
think about the unintended side effects of this plan a little more before
implementation.
