Jim,

There has been many discussions of which motor on this list.
There are the four cycle proponents and the two cycle proponents.
I wound up in the two cycle family because of weight. I can
single handed, easily move my 8hp Tohatsu two cycle. In 2002 I didn't
use my 3 gallons of fuel, so I mixed one time. And I was trying to use
my motor.
If you are going to sail in bays, or other areas affected by
tides, I recommend an 8 or 9.9 hp motor in the event you have to motor
against currents. Since most of my sailing is on a lake, a 6 or less
would have been adequate. But I have sailed against an outgoing tide on
the coast and want to have a bigger motor, just in case.
According to one Rummy, my motor weighs less than 60 lbs. I can
pick it up and mount it by myself. The local price here is about $1300
for a new one. It has proven to be very reliable and easy to start.
I am sure that you will get other recommendations on this
subject.
