Bob,

I used to have that kind of trailer. Real PIA. The trailer for Blewdaze
(Pamela's boat) is much newer and it has the tongue that will slide out
while still attached to the tow vehicle. I kind of like the security of
not disconnecting from the boat trailer, blocked wheels or not.

It would be a big project to make the changes required to duplicate the
newer trailer. But a welder could do so. You'd have to basically
replace/reconstruct the forward "A" frame area. Wonder if you can modify
the existing system for better use? Do you have to remove the tube all
the way from it's storage position and reconfigure, or does yours slide
out next to the existing tongue?

As to problems with the extension in stored position, it slides back and
becomes a part of the trailer support. There have been several different
versions. Ours had a defency of design in that you could pull the tube
all the way out of the trailer by accident. I put a stopper bolt at the
far end, but that caused the pin holes that you use to secure the moving
tube to the trailer to not line up. Had to drill new holes. The other
problem was that when you pushed the tube back into the trailer, it hit
a bracket that required finess because there were not large enough
"elephant ears" to guide the tube. I beat the hell out of the ears to
widen them for more ease in seating. The newest design has addressed
that problem.
