My experience with the motor is limited, (I haven't even finished breaking it in yet) but I like the Nissan/Tohatsu 8 HP longshaft. It has plenty of power, pushes the boat to hull speed at less than half throttle in relatively calm water. Pretty smooth, 2-cylinder, fairly quiet, and the lightest and cheapest motor I could find with electric start and a charging coil.

Also, weighs ~58 LB. Electric start comes standard with a low-pitch prop.

I had an XL 5HP 1-cylinder on my old Mariner. It was reliable, simple, and easy to maintain.

I do love Yamaha. I had a 250 Saltwater Series on my Grady White. I loved that motor, but I just can't justify the extra $$.

> Pros (as I see it): smooth running 2 cyl., electric start& charging, at 102 lbs, you'll have to eat your wheaties to be able to steal it.

> Cons: At 102 lbs,I can't consume enough wheaties to mount it, Yamaha is real proud of it($2100), could be tough on the motor mount.
