Steve:

Here is a summarized copy of the emails that went back and forth
last week:

 Folks,

I hate to burden you with an extra request besides chartbooks and

cameras, but if anyone has a copy of Dwyer's Yellow catalog (Dwyer

Mast Co.), I would appreciate a look/see. There was a mast mounting

plate I saw in there in Chicago, that Bob Dwyer, nor their website

show. Their catalogs are out of print, and I'm facing a senior moment.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Jay

I've got a 1991 edition of Dwyer's Yellow catalog. Each mast extrusion
shape & size requires a different mounting plate. However, I'm going to
take a wild guess as to what you probably want.

Assuming you have the standard mast, this is a DM-500 series extrusion.
The DM-500 takes the D 2122H hinged step, D 1015 Masthead Rig with 4
aluminum sheaves, the DH 21750L Stainless Steel Tabernacle, & the DH 288
Medium Halyard Organizer Plate.

If I've guessed wrong re what you want, then you're going to have to
give me more information in order for me to help you.

Unfortunately, my flat bed scanner is at the repair shop, so I can't
send you any pictures.

Roger-A one-man resource center. Still working on the third halyard
problem. I have the IMF and actually what I saw in the 99 catalog was a
curved plate with a bullnose for mounting a block. It had 3 or 4
screwholes on each side for drilling into the mast. It seemed to have a
three bend configuration to fit several curvatures. Bob's assistant
didn't know what I was talking about and it wasn't on their website. So
I didn't know where to go with this.

I haven't had the chance to review you recommendation on dead-ending

the topping lift, but my first take was on the 18" + drop of the boom

on the IMF, which I use often. I need to further review, but the Dwyer

piece was suggested by Doyle for the UPS halyard. He showed it to me,

and I thought it would be easy to locate with Dwyer. Next time I'll

write it down.

Thanks for any help on this.

J

OK, I looked thru my entire 1991 Dwyer catalog & I came up up several

possibilities:

DH 601 Mast Eye: Looks like a HD stainless steel plate bent in 3 places
to approximately fit the mast curvature with a HD stainless steel ring
welded to the plate. I would use this part for a fixed spinnaker pole
mount on the mast. Uses 4X#10 machine screw fasteners - 2 per side

DH 602 Mast Eye: Looks like DH 601 but sized to fit a smaller mast. The
DH 601 would be the one that fits an R-22 mast.

DH 312 Bail: Looks like one piece of stainless steel strap with 3 bends
in it. The outer two bends are meant to fit the mast curvature & could
be slightly adjusted to fit many different sized masts. The center bend
section forms a U-shape like an eyestrap. Uses 4X#10 machine screw
fasteners - 2 per side.

H 856 Jib Hound: Looks like DH 312 except that, instead of the center
section being an eye strap, the center section is the female portion of
a clevis. Hole is sized for 3/16" OD clevis pin. Uses 2 X 1/4" & 2 X
#10 machine screw fasteners - 1 of each per side. The 1/4" fastener
holes are towards the center of the mast & appear to be intended to
accept a single thru bolt which goes right thru the mast.

Jay, these were the only pieces/parts which were anywhere close to your
description. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I was watching this discussion but never saw a clear

way to get an extra halyard up the mast

I have already done Roger way of deadending a topping

lift from the backside of the masthead. I just use a

longer bolt where the backstay attach; slid on a SS

fiting that allowed for a thimble and bouble nut the

bolt. I use a pulley/with cam cleat at the end of the

boom for adjustments.

With a standard mast - I have a main halyard and a

genoa halyard. I have a schafer furler for my genoa.

These 2 halyard take up the 2 regular halyard

positions.

Just curious if anyone is running a third halyard up

the mast & how it connected. My masthead has the SS U

bolt type fitting on the front of the masthead but I

have never thought that would hold the forces

involved. From what I can tell, its held in there by

2 hex screws.
