Mary Lou and Fred,

I thought you and the list might want to see our first cruising boat - Kate, our Starwind 19. Kate's a good boat, but just too small for two for more than a daysail. In the parking lot at Casa Rio, there was a Compac 16 on the dry (I suppose like your old one), and Tana was very impressed with you after she saw it's small cabin.

Going upwind, I think its hard to beat a keel/cb in a trailerable going close hauled. Throughout our 3 day trip to St Michaels, the winds were mostly on the nose going both ways. Cousin Tom, in the waterballusted Mac26x, would slowly fall back to the horizon - completely unable to keep up with our pointing. Of course, he would just furl the sails, haul the rudders, drain the tank and catch up in 10 minutes planing with his 50 hp Suzuki full throttle in speedboat mode. This process repeated several times throughout the trip. I imagine with the Rhodes extra speed, it would be lots worse.

It was a pleasure to meet you. The Chesapeake is wonderful and we can't wait to return with the Rhodes.

Fair winds,
