  There are 2 problems w/ stern mounted letters on the R22.  

  They are (in random order)...
  1. The motor and mount
  2. The boarding ladder

  So, basically there just isn't a large enough space for it.  I've seen a
  couple of boats with small letters just above the rub rail behind the
  ladder, but I personally think it looks better on the sides.
