[Rhodes22-list] Bulb Keel

MJM et al: Michael's summary pretty much tells the story. When Elton
finally arrived he managed to have the boat moved into position early on
Friday morning. We spent the day scrubbing and cleaning up the road
dirt/snow/ice/etc. She cleaned up well and showed her stuff. We raised the
mast and hanked on the sails Saturday morning just before the show opened.
The boat was the hit of the show with the story bouncing around the hall and
Elton's story board with the pictures of the boat off the trailer and being
hoisted back on to the trailer The trailer looked pretty good still some
minor alignments necessary. The van lost a running board and the rear
bumper is twisted to the point of only being able to open one door plus the
fuse panel was fried, giving Elton a new career in "jury rigging a wiring
system." The boat, on the other hand, faired very well. The rudder broke,
the rudder stock held with some minor bends at the attachment points-
stainless is great, the mast crutch is bent, the prop shaft is out of
alignment and one end of the prop is bent. The bulb is indeed missing in
action but, let me tell you if you were really interested in a solid
sailboat along the lines of a 26 footer, the result of the mishap would
clearly send you in the direction of the Seaward 26RK.

A friend of Elton's got the R22 to us on Wednesday about 4:30PM. Kathy and
I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned some more. We were "run off" around 9:45
but we had managed to dig the snow out of the cockpit, spit shine the hull,
and set up the rigging for a "manual lift" (the crank assembly was in
Elton's van along with several critical clevis pins which he stores in his
secret spot ((his pocket)). Late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning
we rounded up pins from two of Elton's buddies and got the rigging ready
Borrowed the two friends, plus one, to "step the mast." Set up the stairs,
cleaned up the deck and cockpit, hung the "Rhodes 22" pendants, etc, etc and
were ready for customers by opening time at 11.

Kathy and I got home a few hours ago - exhausted but safe. Looks like a
good show for GB!

We had breakfast with Elton this morning before launching for the airport.
He is in good spirits, smile on his face, and looking forward to new
adventures!

A sincere thanks to the Chicago area "Rhodies" who showed up to cheer us on.
We had a great dinner with everyone on Saturday night. A wonderful group of
people!

Bob and Kathy on the "NoKaOi"
