Slim, is right.
There was probably a whole lot of begging by those
other crew members; since they killed one, there was
really no reason not to kill the whole crew.  A good
criminals would not have left any witiness. 

Better to go down fighting.  If the other crew members
would have had some balls, they should have been able
to kill the pirates.
