Mark,

Very clever, but please heed a word of warning regarding what you are doing
in that photo.  By routing the backstay control line over the stern pulpit
on the port side & tensioning it as shown; you are putting an asymmetric
load on the masthead casting, the top of the aluminum mast extrusion, the
rivets holding the two together, and the backstay wires.  None of these
pieces/parts were designed to loaded in that manner.  Therefore, please keep
a close eye on the condition of the top of the masthead.  If you start to
see any warping or distortion of the end of the mast extrusion, pop rivets
failing, or fraying of the backstay wires; then, don't ignore it.  My guess
would be you will see the pop rivets holding the masthead casting to the
mast extrusion start to fail first.

I know there have been lots of replies to this original posting. I set up my
back stay adjuster slightly differently. Instead of tightening the backstay
tension line directly to the block on the backstay, I ran the line over the
bar at the back of the boat to reach there. The effect is exactly the same,
however it has the effect of pulling the backstays out of reach of the mast.
Has anyone tried that - does anyone have any comments or reason why this
should not be done?

I am including a photo to show what I did. (Note how the vlue line goes over
the back rail). You may also notice that there is a R22 with a Canadian
flag! I have now moved up to one of the lakes in North Ontario called Lake
Muskoka - the lake is just big enough for a 22' boat, the weather is great
and I am getting to go out really often.

While I am at it, I am including a photo of my wheel so that you can see a
R22 with a wheel.

I have another question, but, another posting...

When I did the boom got hung up in the back stays/ adjuster __boon was in
