You are being foolish.

You have a new boat. This is a complicated trip. It's a madhouse.

People jostle for position for hours. The barges move around. Anchors drag. Later boats keep moving in front of earlier boats.
The cops keep pushing everyone back.

If you want to see the NYC fireworks well, the easiest place is from land. If you want to be on the water that night, move toward
NYC in the sound. You will be able to see many fireworks from many towns along the sound, even if you can't see the NYC fireworks
as well.

Rye Playland probably will have a great display that night. (I haven't checked.) You can anchor off shore close enough to feel the
pressure of the fireworks on your chest--probably a mile closer than you will be able to get to the Macy's barges. It's a
reasonable trip from your slip. Plenty of anchorages nearby if you don't want to make the round trip in one day.

You will be surprised at how many boats come down to Playland, but it will be just a fraction of what you would have to deal with in
the New York Harbor. Wait til next year for Macy's.

My nephew twiced my arm to take the boat to the macy fireworks this sunday. creew is me, him(20 years old), girlfrend, and my 2
daughters. Me being the idiot I am said yes.
Now I have to figure out how :-)

1) Any one ever do it? is it a madhouse?
2)got this from macy website: All spectator vessels may view the Fireworks display from the following locations:The Buttermilk
Channel south of the northern tip of Governor's Island, Newton Creek, east of the Pulaski Bascule Bridge and East River, north of
the southernmost tip of Roosevelt Island. By the charts they all look like the lossy anchorage, options? best viewing?
3)CG will shut the river by 6pm, any idea how early I need to be for a good spot?
4)GC will not reopen until 11pm, about one hour before battry high tide. Sould I even try to cross back into the sound at night?
5)I am away from my "guilds" until friday, anyone have the "rules" for crossing hells gate with the tides.
6)if I stay in ny harbor over night and ideas for a simple agachorage I can get to from the viewing.
7)DO you thing I can make it from westport (50+-) miles, cross hells gate on staurday and get thier in time?
8)anythingt else I missed and am I being foolish?
