[Rhodes22-list] Insurance

Vic,

I used the same approach. I know I have a good insurance company (Amica) and I know they won't jeopardize all of the other insurance I have with them if I ever have a claim on my boat. The boat represents a minor part of my insurance. The marine policy I have with them is very specific about what they will and will not cover. I have stipulated I won't trailer the boat in the "off-season" here in the Northeast, so that lowers my premium--as it should.

If I ever make that trailer-sailor trip to Key West I will change my coverage to cover the trip.

That's the way insurance should work.

It's not a lottery. It's insurance.

Hi,
I talked with them and got the same answer as others got - you must verify
the value if you want higher coverage. Since I don't have the boat yet, they
wanted a letter and photos from Stan. Since I didn't want to bother Stan I
went to State Farm. They handle it just like a home owners policy - insure
for whatever you want but prove it after loss. Their cost was reasonable and
didn't need a photo or serial numbers for the trailer and motor (which I
don't have yet). The bottom line is that homeowners is easy to get on a new
boat. Maybe you can get a cheaper rate from USboats after you have all the
paperwork the second year.
