Hank,

I just thought of something else you should take a good hard look at before
you get too deeply into your restoration project. There is no mast
compression post in your cabin. If the mast was ever stepped without the
mast compression post in place; then, you may have major structural damage
around the mast step & inside the composite laminate structure of the cabin
roof. Have an assistant step on the mast step while you take a close look
at the cabin liner. If you see minute cracks in the cabin liner radiating
away from the spot where the mast compression post was located; then, this
is a VERY bad sign. Also, does your cabin roof feel "punky" in the region
around the mast step. If so, this is also a bad sign. These symptoms could
be signs of a major hidden structural problem, hard to repair, & you should
seek professional help. If it's real bad; then, this problem may be a
project killer all by itself!
