Steve,

I can remain silent no longer.

Were is your heart, your compassion?

I am a Liberal in the great American tradition, that person you seem so to
loath.
I learned to be a Liberal while serving my country and trying to win the
hearts and minds of another. Instead of winning them over to me, they won me
over. A great man a lover of peace once told me in the last hours of his
life that as imperfect as their life was it was theirs and America need not
worry about them as in time they would join the community of nations as a
productive partner. This officer of the army of the north was so right and
history has proven him true. He told me to go home and help my countrymen.
As so I did.

In my spare time I worked at the food bank, and the homeless shelters since
only action shows the true person. If compassion is to be real there must be
action. In the many years I have do this work there have been many ups and
down and it sometime seen endless. But in the last 3 years the people coming
to these services have changed. These are not the typical down and out
person but the "there for the grace of God go I" where misfortune has turned
to despair. Formally successful people set a drift. You would think that
government should be there to help but in my area the local Republican
administration considers those desperate people as unimportant and are left
in the hands of Liberals of all kinds who care and act. If the economy is so
wonderful why is our case loads growing, why is the traditional family our
best customer. Why is government so uncaring? More than a few great men have
said that the measure of a great nation is how we care for those most in
need. I see a lot of conservatism but not much compassion.

I have been lucky to have been able to do so many wonderful things in my
life including owning and sailing the Rhodes22 but nothing makes me more
proud than to help a family regain the dignity that economic freedom brings.

Liberal is not a dirty word but in fact a proud American tradition of caring
and acting. Come join us we could us your help!

 Liberal

a person who favors a political philosophy of progress and reform and the
protection of civil liberties

a person who favors an economic theory of laissez-faire and self-regulating
markets

broad: showing or characterized by broad-mindedness; "a broad political
stance"; "generous and broad sympathies"; "a liberal newspaper"; "tolerant
of his opponent's opinions"

having political or social views favoring reform and progress

tolerant of change; not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or tradition

in political speech now in the U.S. a liberal is a person who believes it is
the duty of government to ameliorate social conditions and create a more
equitable society. Liberals favor generous spending on the welfare state;
they exhibit a concern for minorities, the poor, and the disadvantaged and
often see these conditions as a product of social injustices rather than
individual failings.

A person who believes that the government should actively support social
reform within the existing system. Liberals stress the importance of
individual rights and believe the government should promote equality in
affairs of private citizens and businesses. (See CONSERVATIVE)

Just a touch of humor

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF JOE REPUBLICAN

Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare
his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some
tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards.

With his first swallow of coffee, he takes his daily medication. His
medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal
fought to insure their safety and that they work as advertised.

All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical
plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid
medical insurance - now Joe gets it too.

He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is
safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate
the meat packing industry.

In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is
properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total
conten! ts because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he
was
putting on his body and how much it contained.

Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he
breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought
for laws to stop industries from polluting our air.

He walks to the subway station for his government-subsidized ride to
work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation
fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public
transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay,
medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some
lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joes
employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his
employees to call the union.

If Joe is hurt on the job or! becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker
compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't
think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

Its noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some
bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some
godless
liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who
ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.

Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his
below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided
that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and
earned
more money over his lifetime.

Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at
his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His
car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal
fought for car safety standards.! He arrives at his boyhood home. His
was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home
Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The
house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck
his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification.

He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives
on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking,
cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe
wouldn't have to.

Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk
show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and
conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have
fought
against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day.
Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives!
After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care
of themselves, just like I have."
