[Rhodes22-list] A New Rhodie Joins the Ranks

Wally,
I bought my Rhodes from a gentleman in Pennsylvania, but let me put in a
plug for Stan here. I had been working with Stan for several months trying
to find a recycled Rhodes that met my desires and budget. He was very
patient and provided good advice on what my options were and kept an eye
out for me. I even made a trip to the General Boats factory and took a
ride on a Rhodes with Stan; a pilgrimage I recommend for every Rhodie.
Well, rather than keeping my business to himself, Stan referred me to the
guy in PA, albeit for a commission. Bottom line, Stan does work hard with
his customer's needs in mind. He is even willing to forgo a direct sale to
you if he sees a boat come along that fits without the need for recycling.
I think that is commendable of Stan.

So, the details on my new Rhodes is that it is a 2000 model with blue hull
and red trim. The guy I bought it from had only sailed it a couple of
times in the last two years so with the exception of a little clean up it
is in fantastic shape. In addition to all the great Rhodes standard
equipment like the top/front loading cooler & sink with electric pump, the
boat came with IMF; 175 genoa; a Yamaha 9.9hp electric start with rudder
linkage and remote throttle/gear mounted on the tiller; pop top enclosure;
bimini; cockpit filler cushions; captains chairs; two house batteries (in
addition to the motor battery); two solar panels; port side hatch; and the
swell head configuration, but with a porta pottie instead of a marine head.
It also has the mast raising system, which I highly recommend. The boat
came with the Triad dual axle trailer with surge brakes which tows great.
The marine head would have been the only thing that I might have added if I
had ordered from Stan, but the more I think about it the more I like the
simplicity of a porta potty. I would be interested in what everyone here
thinks about marine head vs. porta-pottie in the Rhodes.

I would love to bring it down to Blue Springs sometime and have you show me
how to tune the rig, etc. (as well as show me where some good gunkholes are
located!).

I appreciate your thoughts on my father-in-law. Surgery went fine and he
is now recovering.

Bill Wickman

So did you purchase from GB or private owner? IMF or standard? What
options???? Details man we want details! :-)

I look forward to seeing you on the water and good luck selling Opal. She
really needs a good home!

Also good luck regarding your father in-law. My dad had open heart surgery
15 years ago and is doing just fine today.
