Sean, I have had a couple of 2k boats.  They are out there.  The larger they 
get the worse shape and more man hours it will take.  You can get a heck of 
a dingy w/ trailer or if you want a keelboat there will be several out there 
in the under 25 foot range from 1970 t0 1985.  My personal opinion is to 
avoid the makes that are cheaply priced when new (Ventures, macgregors, etc) 
  2000 is sort of a lowest depreciated value for a keelboat.  I would find a 
couple of manufactures you like and go for the one that is in the best 
shape.  If you are not handy of fixing up a boat then you might consider 
taking a loan and getting something in Sail-Away shape.  That was my 
situation and a reclyled (84 or 86?) R-22 perfectly fit the bill.   It can 
be a little bit of work finding the right boat but the good news you will 
most likely be sharing sailing stories next spring.
