Ed,

Dogs are not allowed for deer hunts in TN but they do allow them for bear 
hunts. The dogs sniff out the bear and if everything goes right they chase 
the bear up the tree and bark. The hunter shoots the cornered bear. Not much 
skill involved but that is the way it is done.

Several years ago I read in our local paper about a couple of bear hunters 
out with their dogs. The dogs did their job and chased a bear up the tree. 
The hunter shot the bear. The dead bear fell out of the tree landing on top 
of and  killing his $1400 dog.
