Well they wanted to "sail around". We stayed in the Ambrose Channel and I gybed around to return. Incidentally... why cant one sail around Liberty Island? There are shoals but I think I have seen boats anchored between the Island and the Jersey shore. They built a causeway when the statue was rebuilt but that is gone. Richard Smith
