[Rhodes22-list] KA-boom room

Todd,
I never felt attacked, your point was well thought out. No, I don't
teach economics, but did manage several multimillion dollor building
material units individually and as a district manager. The point about
other nations being hungry for business "the old fashion" way is true. I am
perhaps naive in thinking that there are still Mom & pop subcontractors who
might want to make the product. I am pretty sure Stan doesn't make the
canvas in house and the energy to order one from a secure source (if one
exists) is about equil to writing "5" in the quantity orderded box rather
than 1, especially if he were to have the source send it directly to the
buyer.
Again we all have our ideas but the one that really counts now is Stan's.
And I agree, a curse upon anyone's camel if someone tries to screw Stan out
of his economic dues. If he doesn't want to supply a part because he looses
money we can't expect him to do so, we must rely on our own ingenuity and
not impose on him.

Chris,

I don't know if Stan makes the boom rooms in house or not but if so, you
will then be beating him out of money regardless whether you order 1 or 5.
And if Stan has to contract the work out, he has to stop making boats and
profits while he does all of the leg work to coordinate your orders. I
haven't the slightest idea how Stan runs his business, but he has told me in
e-mails that he is not in the parts business and that is not where he makes
his money.

You can use the "If vendor A buys 1000 widgets at $5 each" scenerio when
you teach high school. But Vendor A in this case is a short-handed mom and
pop operation and not going to sub-out for 1000 widgets. My point wasn't to
argue economics 101 (theory) and/or guess where Stan's break even point
would be for selling boom rooms at a discount. I am sure either way it
would be more than the three or four boom rooms you guys will order-- and
end up costing him money by wasting his time.

Re-read the last paragraph of my first post too. I am not going to go
over the whole intellectual property debate again either. My point was to
show the irony of how some choose to publicly defend Stan when it works in
their favor, and at other times attack list members (me) for trying to
honestly help other Rhodies out. I wasn't questioning your intentions and my
post wasn't directed at you. I know you were trying to figure out how to
make this a win-win deal. I was vague and did not include anyone's name
because my post wasn't meant as a personal attack on you or anyone else. It
was one of those ...I am scratching my head and wondering comments....

Todd
