Wow! That was a lot of information to digest all at once.
I can sort it out and now have great information when I go shopping for a
truck.
Thank you for your excellent input.

We use a 2000 Yukon XL half ton V8. But we also tow well over 2000
miles/year. We used this vehicle for both our Rhodes 22 (formerly) and our
Seaward 26 (currently). We make a round trip towing to Hilton Head South
Carolina for a week or two, weekend trips in the Poconos, Rock Hall, MD
seasonly, and usually the boat some how ends up back in Edenton for yearly
add ons and maintenance. The first year when we got our first Rhodes a '94
recycle we had a V6 Dodge Dakota Pick-up. For short runs, once a season, it
wasn't too bad of a vehicle. You just have to keep in mind your use and
practices of how much trailering and how often you plan to do it. We started
out with what we had and had to invest planning ahead on how much trailering
we had hoped to do. So far we wouldn't want to be without the GMC, sometimes
its possible to even not realize your towing, except as you watch the gas
gauge fall. Also keep in mind for towing the trailer. Our first trailer with
the dakota was a single axle without brakes. The boat definetely was over
powering the tow vehicle. Would never attempt to tow again without brakes
and also upgraded to a dual axle on the RHodes. Made towing a lot easier and
more practical, eliminated sway, distributed weight, and 4 wheels of braking
power. We now have the same setup for our Seaward and still love towing the
boat with us to different vacation spots and have fun sailing new areas and
former hangouts for memories. The GMC/Chevy 's are great and would get
another one in a second. I also am a very large fan of the Ford F-250 Diesel
and the GMC Sierra 2500 Diesel. Hey, if you're going to go truck and fit in
with the neighbor's why not go all the way. Diisel's have separate
advantages over Unleaded. The gas mileage will improve over time
dramatically. The engine has the ability to last longer and more mileage
with proper maintanance, but there also is the extra initial cost and fuel
price at the current time. The new F-250s just look like a truck have the
aggressive front grill and act like a truck. The sierras are a litle more
moderate and toned down whether it be gas or diesel. A little lower to the
ground, the doors act more like that of a car and have a lighter feel to
them. You had mentioned you were avoiding the stereotypes so the sierra
might be more of a compromise instead of the Ford's that will stand out. I'm
not sure what price range your in or your towing goals and ideas, but if
your looking for a new F-250 the new 05 just came out so pricing may be
available for the leftover 04. In the range of used vehicles pick-ups just
hold their value and deals aren't to be found very easily. You pay for what
you get. I hope I didn't get too pitchy as a sales person in the vehicles
that i'm interested in, but they're just a couple of options and overall the
spectrum almost has no limits with different vehicles that can work. but its
all based on use with what might be most practical. Good luck and let me
know if you have any further questions. Thanks, Will
