	1. It is amazing what people will do to improve their sex lives.
Todd, you simply amaze me.

	2. At this point it is obvious that 'Bill Wickman' was really lost
at sea. The reply posted must have come from his wife when the Coast Guard
reported two found alive on small sailboat off Cape Fear.

	3. The answer to Todd's P.S., obviously. It would be best to check
the source and tell us accurately.

Speaking of cold cervezas,

I found this on a live-aboard/cruising bulletin board. It is a basically
a still which uses a combination of water and anhydrous ammonia, It that
creates an icy ball that is hung over the edge of a horizontal ice chest of
cooler. This device was patented in 1928, but still works today! See

This sounds like a job for Roger. Where is Roger? He hasn't posted since
March.

 Todd:
Thank you for the McMaster site. It gives the definitions of HDPE
that Chris mentions and UHMWPE that you mentioned. It also defines VHMW,
 LDPE and Virgin PTFE.
Ah, for the days of wood, but even that is now EWF. And you guys
have not discussed foamed wood composites and MDF.

 Chris,

Get UHMWPE from www.mcmaster.com. Read the descriptions-but I am sure
that the only plastics that are UV resistant are black.

   Bob & Robert,

Oh for sure I will use up a number of cards in my digital. I'm not too
worried about the supply and water thing, it can't be much worse that the
Bahamas Out Islands 10 years ago. The nice thing about the Rhodes is I
can
carry all kinds of goodies (but no cold cerveza):(. The problem is not
with the actual rudder but rather the two fixed plates on either side of
 the
rudder that the tiller fits between. I'll also check with a local
suplier
of HDPE (that is high density polyethelyne ?) If they have it, perhaps
I'll just cut it myself and not worry about it getting here in time. If
not, I'll give your guys a try. Thanks agin for the help.

Chris, First of all I want to hear all about Baha when you get back.
That
is one of about 4 places I want to visit before I give up the luxery of
a
trailerable boat. The others are the Keys and lake Dillon in Co.
   Secondly,
there is a Mac owner at my marina who just got a new rudder blade custom
   cut
last year. He said it was not too expensive especiallly for a made to
   order
blade. I contacted him for you and got the information. The material is
stronger than starboard but lighter than fibre glass. You send them the
template and they trace it one one table and it gets cut on another is
my
    understanding.

    Hey Bob,
Its www.idasailor.com - they sell replacement parts made out of HDPE
plastic for many models. I don't know if they have a blade for a Rhodes
yet, but Joel Santarone is very good about wanting to add and expand his
line. If your friend coordinates with Joel, maybe they can work
something out. See the 'cc' above for the IdaSailor Marine e-mail
    address.

Hope it helps, don't forget to record your experience of Baha. I read
one
book about a couple who used Baha as a proving ground before they set
off
across the Pacific. The one thing I remember from their accounts is
that
supplies are hard to get in the Mexican ports. Apperantly "Mañana"
means
some time mabey tomarrow more likely a wieek or so. Water is also a
    commodity down there.

On my 2 page to do list I've gotten down to "replace the rudder head".
I
did this on my other Rhodes many years ago using marine grade 3/4 inch
mahogany plywood laminated together. It worked, but was a bit bulky.
My
current boat has grey 3/8 plastic "cheeks" but I am not confident that
    there
hasn't been some deterioration over the last 20 years. Since I am
   planning
to have the boat in the Baja for 6 weeks I don't want it to fail down
    there.
Any Idea of either the type of plastic that would be ok to use (after
all
the original lasted 20 years) or would 1/4-3/8 plate aluminum be either
   too
heavy or the problem of electrolysis with the SS fittings too much of a
headache? Any other Ideas? I know some of you guys have done this so
if
   I
can learn from someone else's mistakes rather than my own that would be
a
    good thing.
