[Rhodes22-list] Introduction and Thanks

Thought I'd take a few minutes on this rainy Memorial Day in
Cincinnati (when I'd hoped to be out sailing)I to write a brief
introduction and thank everyone for all the helpful information that
finds its way into my Rhodes22 list folder everyday.

I started sailing about 3 years ago when I happened onto a Macgregor
Venture 17. I found it be a really good boat to learn to sail...very
forgiving. This Spring I found out about a 1986 Roades22 for sale.
Since I'd never heard of a Rhodes, I got on the Internet, found loads
of information, and decided it sounded like the perfect boat for me.
The only problem with the one I was looking at was that it had
recently been involved in an unfortunate incident. As its previous
owner was towing it to the lake after having it completely overhauled
and detailed, the nut on the trailer hitch ball stripped off (made in
China), the safety chains didn't hold, and the boat and trailer
headed off into an adjacent field. After glancing off a telephone
pole, it rolled over in the field. He settled with his insurance
company (they declared it totaled), and I was able to buy it very
inexpensively.

Surprisingly, there was not much apparent damage on the outside, most
of what I spent the Spring working on was the inside. I took out most
everything on the inside and either repaired, or replaced the broken
parts/pieces. We were able to launch in April, and have been out
several times in May. Love the IMF, all the room, the furling Genoa,
the cabin layout, the hull shape, the nine stays, and many other
traits.

Stan was great. I needed some small parts that were missing. I sent
him an email with what I needed and my credit card number and told
him just to charge me and send them out. He replied that he doesn't
take credit cards and just sent them out no charge! Now that I'm sure
I'm going to be keeping the boat, I'm sure he'll be hearing quite a
bit from me in the future as I continue to replace some of the more
expensive damaged parts and fittings. (like the mast...maybe I should
try the credit card thing again and see if he sends me a new IMF mast
at no charge :-))

I looked for some pictures to attach (Bill...the picasa program
sounds great, but I went to download it and its only for
Windows...not Mac) and came up with one showing it on the trailer in
our driveway after having put the mast up for the first time (with my
daughter!) and one other showing the marina at Rocky Fork Lake where
we keep the boat. Anyone passing thru Cincinnati and would like to go
for a sail in the foothills of the Appalachians, let me know. The
lake is about an hour east of Cincinnati.
