Hello Dylan fans,

I'm just now finishing his autobiography, "Chronicles" released last year.
It blows me away. What a fun read! There's no new earth-shattering
revelations or anything scandalous. He mainly writes about his early days,
his influences, his thoughts and reflections. But it's in the little things
and the way he writes that's worth the read. After all, it's Bob Dylan and
he knows how to turn a phrase. Here's a couple tidbits:

"I sat forward on the chair strumming songs off my guitar." Off. Anybody
else would have said "on." It changes the whole meaning and deepens the
reader's understanding of his mindset.

"In the late '50s and early '60s, teenage rebellion was beginning to make
noise, but that scene hadn't appealed to me, not in a wholehearted way. It
had no organized shape. The rebel-without-a-cause thing wasn't hands-on
enough--even a lost cause, I thought, would be better than no cause."

His writing voice oozes with self-assured confidence. He knew exactly what
he was doing and why. He holds himself in the highest regard, but without a
shred of arrogance.

I'm sure this book will make it to my shortlist of those I've read more than
once.

Also, did anybody else see the PBS special a few weeks ago? Produced by
Martin Scorcece. Unbelievable early footage. I loved it!
