[Rhodes22-list] Shroud or Stay Covering Reply to Mike and Todd

Mike and Todd:

The bottom piece sits flush with the deck. As Mike says 'It is
supposed to turn'. I have said it before in earlier post to this current
discussion that it has rasied one time with the sheet under the edge -that I
can recall - That is since inception. It has occassionally risen while
turning but the sheet is above the bottom. There pressure from the sheet
while turning screws it up. The piece drop as soon as sheet is loosened.

My original purpose was to prevent chafing. Subsequently Stan
mentioned the problem of the Genoa chafing on the hardware and stays, so he
reinforced my opinion that what I was doing was good. If you want to buy a
new Genoa, just let it abraid accross the turnbucle. Yes rigging tape
helps, but that technique does not roll freely.

Again I would consider putting tubing on the stays above the
spreaders. Am I the only one that sails the 175 tight against the stays?

When I do bring the Genoa inside the outer stays because of wind, I
do not use all of the sail, that means that it is partially reefed. I have
an inside track (that is a track next to the cabin). As far as I can tell
with the inside track, I am able to maintain a good sail shape.

Addendum: $10 worth of plastic tubing is less that a new Genoa.
