i have been on the intrepid in new york harbour and i tried to visualize how the carrier is perceived by those who have never been to sea on a navy vessel. i know they try but there really isn't any way to do it well. you have to have been to sea and operated a vessel at night with only red lights and electronics to tell you whats going on around you. its as close to feeling like you are out in space as anyone on earth is likely to experience.

opportunity some time. What a thrill. As an AF guy, I got to spend a few
days on the "Connie." Nothing like a "trap" and a "catapult" to make your
day. After spending the better part of three months serving with the US
Navy on a ship in the Persian Gulf, I must say that the American people
probably do not realize the debt of gratitude owed to the men and women who
serve aboard ship.

Our Army, Marines and AF Forward Air Controllers are not far behind, they
are all serving under very stressful conditions.

A salute to them all.
