[Rhodes22-list] Rural Expansion: Ugggg

Dont worry Brad, farmers and the small communities nearby in rural Illinois,
have come up with the ingenious idea to grow houses on this fertile land in
lieu of food crops. The farmers are happy to sell off their land at $15,000 to
$50,000/acre to secure their retirement (and their kids retirement in some
cases), and the small communities get to experience growth. Yahoo!!! Can you
imagine anything better than the growth of a small farm town into a suburb?

In the best planning that I have seen, the villages get enough money from the
developers to build some schools, improve some roads and to engineer (and
possibly build) municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities to handle the
new growth. Some communities ask for nothing from the developers just to see
their towns continue.

It appears as though many small villages are confusing growth with success.

So much for rural Illinois!
