Bill,

You have IMF, right?  I do and I never detatch the boom at all.  When
lowering themast, after taking off the traveler 
bar and so on, I hoist the boom up parallel with the mast and cleat the
topping lift to the horn cleat at the base of 
the mast.  With the GB crane I raise and lower the whole bundle of mast,
boom and genny all in one.
