Yes I did take this into consideration and found for the entire project inclusing having a yard install and retep the mast that the cost was about 100 dollars more for the CDI. I wanted to have the entire cost.
 
Finding a 26' full length tube was a problem and all that I was able to find were 12' units aht would have to be welded together. Certainly this would have been ok but not as it was orginally.
 
Instead I have ordered a new CDI from Mauri Sailing and it should be here shortly.
 
I am having them also build a new headstay.

  Someone may have already posted this suggestion, but when you consider
upgrading to the CDI furler, don't forget to factor in the price of
having luff tape added to your genoa.  Another interesting fact is that
the O.D. of  thick wall 1" marine ss tubing is about the same as the I.D
of the GB furler tube.  If you are anywhere close to the Wash. DC area, I
have a "repaired" GB furler laying out in the yard which you are welcome
to use until you get yours replaced or upgraded.  See attached pics of
the repairs. I also have a pic of a bushing I made out of 1" UHMWPE rod
that I got on e-bay for a few bucks....not as fancy as the flanged GB
bushing, but not too bad as a spare to have out in the garage!

  John,

  This is a 1 1/8" aluminum tube.

  I have tried to find someone who can straighten this but have not.
  Also I do not know if I will be able toget it absolute and I have
  found a new CDI system installed for about the same price.
