[Rhodes22-list] HELP! How about a debate on.. WAS: A GREATEmailList

I am sure it is adaptable. You would have to connect it where the cable to
the control arm normally goes in or make a hole and tap it. Screw in the
cable end (the piece that is bent) then route the cable, which is in a
sleeve. You can then hook it to whatever kind of control you can adapt to
it. The end of the cable that goes to the throttle has a piece of metal
attached to it. Since that would be on the carburetor side you might have
to cut it off. There are kits to attach an end piece to the cable if
necessary. You would have to see what the arrangement the carburetor on
your motor is. Surely it requires a bit of rigging ingenuity, but it isn't
impossible. The nice thing about MC cable is it is, though not marine, it
is designed for "outdoor" use. It is worth looking into. I think the real
challenge is attaching the 90 degree tubes (all in all about six to eight
inches long if you straightened them out) to the motor.

I would do that if I couldn't adapt anything else. That POWER TILLER might
be adaptable too. Just because it mounts on the tiller handle doesn't mean
you can't make a mount for it and they claim to have it available for the
popular Japanese engines. If you take a look at the archives, there was a
discussion about it not long ago. Go to http://powertiller.net/. You might
be able to adapt that device much more easily.

And you could use something like that on an outboard??

My motorcycle has two cable tubes that come off the throttle at a near 90
degree angle. They also swivel. From there a throttle cable could be
routed anywhere. The Shifter would have to be adapted with linkages.

Elle,

Can't Stan build some sort of spacer that would give room for the cables to
turn out of the way?Something that would allow the engine to be mounted x
number of inches further back?
