[Rhodes22-list] Politics: Term Limits

I'm in favor of limited term limits - you can only serve x (my preference would be 2) number of consecutive terms, then you have to leave. You can come back, but you gotta be benched at least one cycle.

That would put a BIG crimp in the lobbyists. Who wants to invest hundreds of thousands in a candidate who's only going to be around for 4 years?

I don't mind that the lobbiests are helping craft legislation, they are the experts in the specific subject and ignorant politicians would be obtuse in their regulations. I just want to know who is doing what and who is contributing to whom. The campaign finance laws have become clear violations of the 1st Amendment to the Consititution and are so difficult to maneouvre through it is a crime waiting to happen (not unlike the tax laws crafted by the same people!).

They could use some of that public service money to explain legislation, whose crafting it and what it will do. Every penny a politician receives should be disclosed and the laws simplified. McCain-Feingold is a travesty.
