The following is another informational post about loosing a
natural wonder in the southern Appalachian Mountains. There is a bug named
the Woolly Adelgid that is killing the Eastern Hemlock trees. This bug is
doing to the Hemlocks what another bug did to the Chestnut trees 50 to 75
years ago. Simply it is killing them.

In the southern Appalachian Mountains there is a stand of Hemlocks worthy
of attention. In the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forrest in the Nantahala
National Forest of North Carolina there is a very unique stand of trees.
This stand of trees consist of Hemlocks and Yellow Poplars. This stand
rivals the Sequoia trees in California in size. If you have never seen this
stand, your opportunity is now limited.

The Hemlocks at Joyce Kilmer are being attacked by the woolly Adelgid.
There is no sure cure against this bug. Once the trees are infested they
usually die in 4 to 5 years. So you have less than 5 years to see this
magnificent forrest.
