[Rhodes22-list] Roger

I'm among the few that have sailed on both standard and IMF boats. My sail
with Roger the other day convinced me that his boat will outperform mine any
day. His is lighter, has less wetted surface friction because of a smaller
board, and especially the standard main. Even with two reefs, his main
performs well. I can reef in my IMF to have the same square footage but no
matter what, it¹s still loose-footed and I think that¹s where his really has
the edge. He also tacks through 80 degrees and mine through 90. Again, I
assume this is attributed to the main. When we get him out on Fandango
it¹ll be very interesting to see if he agrees--I'm sure he will. He has a
150% foresail and it's cut so that when it's all the way out, you can still
see under it. My big 175 is more or less a "deck sweeper" and you can't see
under it when it's full out. Even on a broad reach with my bigger jib, he'd
deploy his asymmetrical spinnaker and I'd be toast.

That said, I'm not a racer and I still prefer the IMF because of its
simplicity and convenience. And I don't have a spinnaker nor would I want
all that fuss and extra rigging.
