[Rhodes22-list] More on GPS

Joe,

California has always been nutty, ignore them. It is hard for me to get
excited about hybrid vehicles when I owned a car almost 30 years ago that
got better mileage (VW diesel Rabbit). Marry a diesel to a hybrid and now
we're talking some mileage, 80+ mpg. Remember 1973 and 1979? We're sitting
ducks for that again! But forget history, remember the globe is warming,
NYC going under water and all that. Listen to Mr. Gore, the sky is
falling! If you are really serious about saving energy, drive your current
gas guzzler until the wheels fall off of it. The last figure I saw was that
it takes about four years of driving a hybrid to recoup the energy it took
to build the car. The same goes for your wallet. Give me a diesel/electric
car (my employer had diesel/electric delivery vans specially built) running
on bio-diesel and I'll show you some real environmental stewardship.

I gotta go teach a class. What to drive? The 13 year old Lexus or the
"fuel line as big as your wrist" Dodge pickup. I think I'll take the truck,
I like sitting up high.
