[Rhodes22-list] Buying a Rhodes

Dan,
I picked up my recycled Rhodes this past July. I am by no means a seasoned
sailor, so take my comments with that in mind. I keep my boat in the marina
at Naval Air Station, Patuxent River. It's across the mouth of the Patuxent
River from Solomons Island (if you are familiar with the area). Things that
I had done by GBI:
1. I had Stan install the mast antenna for me.
2. I have a Bimini - it's worth it on hot muggy days.
3. I have the pop-top enclosure, but have yet to use it.
4. Stan installed two batteries and two solar panels which will be more
that enough power
5. I had GBI install a marine head, but not the full head enclosure -
depending on how you intend to sail, that may not be needed. Our marina is
installing a pump-out station, and there is a free one over at Solomons.

I have a hand held GPS --- Garmin. I have the cig. lighter cord for it, so
I can operate it off ships power or AA batteries. Again, I haven't really
had the need to use it because I have not ventured out of the familiar
waters of the Patuxent, but I have hopes of greater adventures. I've also
bought an antenna for it so I can use it inside the cabin . . .

We love the boat. Can't go wrong with the Rhodes. I'll extend the same
invitation that Elle did. If you are going to be in the area, and want to
go out on a sail, give me a call. There is also another Rhodie in the same
marina as me . . . he had additional options put on his boat, so you can get
his opinion on their utility.

Tom
