It is interesting that 80% of France's electricity is generated via uranium reactors and they have never had a problem since their construction. The media in the USA killed new atomic power with their sensationalistic reporting of the 3 Mile Island Reactor's moderately radio active steam release, which was what the system was designed to do in case of a core problem. What do the French know that we don't?
How many fossil fuel generating plants would have NOT been operating today if our atomic energy electricity generating program had been allowed to progress 30 years ago with private capital investment?
Of course the French had a hidden agenda; their plants are sited near the Germany border so if there is a "French Cheyrnoble ," the cloud of radioactivity will blow East towards Germany with prevailing westerly winds!!

  Ed,

I have read your postings, well most of them, anyway. While I am not
looking for political alignment on the topic of GW (nor even GwB), it would
be nice to determine if GW is indeed occuring and if so, is it something to
be concerned with. Of course, this begs the question "Is there really
anything that I can do about it?" Several arguments concerning alternate
fuels (corn ethanol) have been made indicating that while they may reduce
dependence on foreign oil they do little for GW. In addition, several
discussions concerning electric vehicles, particularly the real cost of
battery manufacture, transportation and eventual disposal indicate that
their usage may not make good environmental sense.
