[Rhodes22-list] MONITORING LIST

I remember that story.
I'm definatly not ready but I can learn if my boat is up to it.
I don't want to buy a boat that will limit me to the harbor, that's my concern about a 22' boat vs a larger trailerable.

Hi Jay and welcome to the Rhodes g
  roup. Regarding sailing to Catalina,
there's no question the R22 is good to go but the question is are you? Get
to know your boat and how it handles in a variety of conditions first. If
you can, take the trip on someone else's boat and get to know the layout of
the area, anchorages, marinas, etc. Or bring someone along with you on the
Rhodes who has some experience. Or make the crossing with another boat
you're in radio contact with. Make it easy on yourself.

Maybe you remember the story that was in the news a few years ago about a
guy sailing solo to Catalina and got dismasted. He and his disabled boat
drifted for months and was finally rescued off the coast of Costa Rica?
Nicaragua? I don't recall. Don't be him! Here's the story:
