[Rhodes22-list] Shorties

In response to my request last winter, Stan made me some shorties -- a
Short Tiller and a Short Mast.

I think Art now uses a Short Mast -- he can tell you more.

The idea behind the short tiller is that the amount of effort required
for the R-22 tiller is so low that you could have a much shorter
tiller. This has proved to be true some times, but not others.

The second idea was that since an auto tiller requires only 18" of
tiller, you could use a much shorter tiller when on Auto Tiller, and not
have the rest of the stick flopping around the cockpit. My Auto Tiller
(bought 3 years ago and still in the box) came with wired remote
control, and I thought it would be fun to use the cabin as a pilot
house, steering the boat as if there were no one on board. I hope to
try this out this summer.
