Maybe I read Herb's note wrong...  I'll let him 'splain.

For what it's worth, although I think the last election was a farce, I
thought the issues had more to do with Florida election and Supreme Court
irregularities.  It seems to me that the electoral college still plays a
useful role in reminding people about the states part of United States of
America, and is a safeguard of the role of the states in our system of
government.
