Mike - the major difference is in the tidal range and heavy currents in the
Delaware Bay. While I have sailed but once in the Barnegat Bay, the
conditions are good for sailing. I have traversed the Del Bay several times and the
combination of tidal currents, shipping and chop (wind against current) can
be hairy. We found a good stopover place - the Hancock Marina on the
Cohansey River - there are quite a few sailboats there and once we were off the Bay
and into the River, the chop disappeared. It's a pretty river, meanders
several times back to the marinas area. But B Bay is worth the extra travel
time, in my view.
