I've seen examples of this where you basically just mount a length of 
sail track across the deck.  Do whatever engineering is needed to 
mount it flat.  Put a jib car on that without the pinstop in it, so 
it's free to move back and forth.  Voila, self-tending jib.  For a 
lot more money you can get a sexy Harken ball-bearing traveler to do 
the same thing.
