That is usually accomplished with a short piece of line on each side.  To
grab rail or stanctions if you have them.  Tie off each side equally.

And further on the subject of securing, consider two of the rachet nylon
load holding straps to keep your slick boat in place.  The new trailers have
large U's welded fore and aft to attach such devices to.  On older trailers
just wrap around frame.  Remember to put pieces of rug under at rub points
on deck and gunnells.  

And by the way, the electrical tape method of organizing the stays comes
from the home of the Rhodes 22.  Then often the loops of stays are placed in
a sail bag which is then secured.  Or at least that was the method taught by
Elton at the turn of the century.
