Diane,

If it's any consolation, I don't have a bimini either and, so far, haven't missed it.  I sail on the Chester River and Chesapeake and do only day sailing (so far) so that might have some impact on the issue.  Usually when it's incredibly hot, there's little to no wind so not a day for sailing.

  It is a 1987. I would like to upgrade to a bimini next year, seems I'm the
