[Rhodes22-list] Masthead lights (anchor & steaming)

Dana,
You are correct and I am in the process of having this changed on my boat right now. To be legal, the anchor light has to be visible for 360 degrees. The steaming light is probably less than 180 so I am probably going to replace the steaming light with a masthead anchor light that is 360. The steaming light (in my view) is useless anyway since the anchor light can be used if needed underway. Looked into LED masthead lights but they are obcenely expensive - $300-500. So I am going to go with a standard incandescent light on the masthead that will run less than $50. Have enough battery power to light it for the occassional overnighter anyway.

I'm currently working on getting it ready for the season. The mast is wired for an anchor light, but whatever was there must have busted off before I got the boat. There is also a light fixture facing forward about a foot from the top of the mast, but it wasn't working last year either.> > I have two questions:> > 1. The anchor light and steaming are separate lights, right? My understanding is that an anchor light has to be visible from all directions, and the steaming light is the light facing forward that must be on when motoring.> > 2. Any recommendations on new lighting? Is there a combined LED light that will serve both purposes?> > Thanks,> Dana> > __________________________________________________> Do You Yahoo!?> Tired of spam? Yahoo!
