Hey Mike,
Glad you made it into the water.
Can you send a picture of the bow end of the trailer with the boat on?  
On our trailer there is a rubber bumber on an
adjustable tube member.  As it came from the Triad factory, the bumper 
was very hard and kind of abrasive.  I found one
at Boater's World that was a lot softer and with minor mods it fit.  
I'll try to get a picture later today if it will help you any.
I find that I have to winch the boat up against the bumper prior to 
hauling out of the water in order for the boat to end up
in the sweet spot for towing with appropriate tongue weight.
