Ed,

For a good read on gasoline from the wellhead to the pump, find a copy of
"Oil On The Brain" by Lisa Margonelli (2007).  Everyone gets their gasoline
from the closest refinery and the individual brands add their "snake oil" at
the tanker (usually a detergent).  Part of the problem with bottlenecks in
the gasoline distribution system is every state and some cities have their
own boutique formulations. Corn producing states force you with state
supported violence to accept ethanol. Just getting a straight answer on
whether the oxygenate added is MTBE or ethanol is difficult.  Bottom line -
gasoline is gasoline - I buy mine from Kroger's (comes from the same local
Valero refinery as Exxon).
